Today & Tomorrow are identical twins, Don't know where the one ends and the other begins. Try as they might, birds can't take flight, time just stands still...

Always felt that this boy would return would return, would return, would return. All the corners and circles he'd turned, how they turned, how they turned, how they turned.. Perhaps he'll come when the river has burned then he'll yearn, then he'll yearn, then he'll yearn, Always dreamed that this boy would return, would return, would return, would return....

about

This is the first album from PAINTBOX, a folktronic duo consisting of PK Chown and Sam Coppen, both former members of the Dandelion Set and The Blue Planet Sound.
‘The Memory Effect’ is part lockdown reverie / part sequence of atmospheric ‘cuts’ that link together much like a movie soundtrack. But it is also a personal search for one’s place in a changed world, how the different versions of yourself co-exist and how memory is fluid, susceptible to the influence of time, mood and location.
With it’s after-echoes of Canterbury sound, it’s excursions into landscape electronica and a kind of folk flavoured library music, the album has a definite rural quality which belies it’s urban origins in Lisbon, Portugal.

These ten evocative tone poems abound with clarinets, harpsichord, sizzling synths and acoustic guitars, lo-fi beatboxes and snatches of mellotron, painting a storyline in watercolour shades.
The lyrics where they exist are only half heard snippets of thought that spark your own imagination, your own half remembered memories.
